This begins the process called ketosis. While it offers rapid weight loss, it also causes halitosis, otherwise known as chronic bad breath. The lack of saliva creates a hostile environment for your teeth, which gives you horribly bad breath.

Halitosis does not cause severe harm, but it can affect you socially. Rather than wonder why your mates stay away when you talk, drink plenty of water to dilute the concentrations of ketones. Get rid of the odour by chewing sugarless gum or taking mints.

Juice Cleansing and Your Teeth

Juice cleanses are one of the most popular diet fads today. During the cleanse, dieters only consume fruit and vegetable juices for three to seven days. The lack of solid food means no chewing for a week; the lack of chewing results in reduced saliva production. Your saliva is important in cleaning food debris, as well as controlling bacteria build-up, a common culprit behind cavities.

In addition, the acid from the juice breaks down the enamel of your teeth. It is much better for you to eat the fruit rather than drink it. If you do undergo a juice cleanse, use a straw and immediately rinse your mouth with water.
