Teeth Straightening and Dental Prosthetics

Teeth straightening
treatments are becoming increasingly popular, but, if you already have crowns, veneers, or dental implants fitted in your mouth, you may be wondering whether or not teeth straightening treatments will still work for you. Here, we’ll run through these three forms of dental prosthetics, and whether or not each one is compatible with teeth straightening treatments.

Crowns

Crowns are compatible with teeth straightening treatments, provided that the tooth with the crown has undergone root canal treatment. This is the case for both fixed orthodontics and removable aligners.

Veneers

Veneers are compatible with teeth straightening treatments. While they can be used with both fixed orthodontics and removable aligners, It is preferable to opt for removable aligners as these are less likely to damage your veneers. However, if you do choose fixed orthodontics, damage to your veneers can be minimised by using a special adhesive.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are compatible with teeth straightening treatments, and this is the case for both fixed orthodontics and removable aligners. However, your dental implants will not move during the treatment so your treatment plan will need to be adapted to account for this.

If you have any further questions about whether teeth straightening is right for you and your mouth, your dentist should be able to provide more specific advice for your individual circumstances.
